CIBC Run for the Cure and Cleansing

So Sunday was the CIBC Run for the Cure, and it was a great success for Walkers for Knockers West. Though it was rainy, it was still a good walk. We had 14 team members this year, but that was without the Ellis/Lemoine bunch, but WITH some Goddesses of Hope since they didn't have enough people for their own team this year. I was slightly disappointed that they didn't dress in their full on outfits, but they decided to take a break and be Walkers for Knockers. Thanks everyone for your hard work!

As for the cleansing part of the title, I have decided to do a body cleanse. Not a scrubbing type cleanse, but a detox cleanse. I'm kind of scared. I've heard that it's not exactly.... comfortable at the start. But I've been feeling really run down and not too energetic lately, and I think the whole flying all the time is affecting my body more than I know, so I looked into the cleanse thing and decided to give it a shot. I'm doing "First Cleanse" since it's, duh, my first time cleansing, and also it's not too strong and harsh, so people with sensitive bodies can do this pretty comfortably. I don't have to eat totally crazy things, just try to eat mostly fruit and veggies, whole grains, fish... basically what you should be eating anyways. Then there are two different herb things that I take, one type in the morning and the other at night. I can also split it up if I'm thinking I'll eat totally horribly for a day, say like on Sunday for thanksgiving. I will let you know how it goes. I'm scared. Of the cleansing part of the cleanse. You know what I mean. Gross. I don't make it a habit to talk about my *cough* digestive system *cough* on my blog, even though other, more famous blogs do, so I won't go into detail about it. But I'm scared.

Montreal Pics Finally

So thanks to Vaness, I got some more Montreal pictures. I have posted a few on Flickr, but below are some of my faves.

This was Vanessa's friend, the paramedic, who's blood pressure she took as I was behind the ambulance throwing up. Awesome.

Surprised I wasn't dead. I can see the fear in my eyes.

I can't say anything about this. Though this is Tyler who I visit in Montreal when I fly there now. And the one with the motorcycle.

These two pics are us getting a little crazy in a random souvenir store. We were hysterically laughing, taking all sorts of poses and then we got kicked out of the store because you apparently aren't allowed to take photographs of items that you aren't purchasing. I haven't laughed so hard in my entire life, except perhaps when I was looking at these pictures today.

London baby!

So I went to London (Ontario, that is) yesterday morning and came back this evening. ALL that for Steph. (You better love me Steph). I was at the airport around 4:45 in the morning and flew, got to London, hung out at Western with Steph at her work, then we went home to her place, had a few bevvys, had a fancy dinner with her boif Matt and his friend, went to drink some more at friend's apartment (where we heard the funniest thing ever and was then repeated constantly during the night, more on this after), then went to this martini bar (which had a giant neon sign that said BAR on it) and then went BACK to his apartment to drink a little more, then went home. It was quite en enjoyable evening. I'm glad I went.

So the funny thing we heard needs a bit of explanation. Apparently this weekend is homecoming weekend at Western. (I'm not sure why I'm blogging everything American this week, but that's what's happening.) So grads from western come back and basically drink their faces off for a weekend. How this is different from every other weekend spent at university, I'm not too sure, but in any event that's what it was. So, in this apartment building, there are lots of students. Lots of parties since it was homecoming. As we're waiting for the elevator, we see this girl banging on an apartment door holding what I can guess was a rum and coke in a plastic cup. When the door is answered, she says "were you ACTUALLY complaining about us upstairs?" and whoever was inside the apartment said "yeah" and then girl with the drink said "well you know that your neighbours are also partying, and it's a Friday, and hello, it's HOMECOMING. Get a fucking life!!" and then she stormed off... With her drink. And then she looked at us and said something like "the party is ON". So all night, we kept saying "hel-LO, it's HOMEcoming, get a fucking life!" and it was pretty funny. I really enjoyed the fact that she was pissed enough to go down and yell at the girl who complained about them, but not at the expense of her drinking.

Of course, we had to have a typical Steph Heather picture to complete the evening, so here it is.

And because the night ended with Steph puking, I had to document that through photography. I personally enjoy my eye in the corner... Not too sure what that is all about.

Football

What is with football being soooooo much more popular in the states, so popular that there is a reality tv show about HIGH SCHOOL football players. HIGH SCHOOL, not college. And this football team is apparently state champions or something, but they show the games on tv, they get sponsored, the coaches have headphones on, and their average game gets more spectators than our CFL teams. I just don't get it. And these kids are 16 and 17, practice twice a day, are more built than almost anyone I know, and have full on college scholarships waiting for them.

It's just not like that here. And I don't really get why there's such a difference.

Feelings on the subject?

New Car = Wicked

I just picked up my new car. I love it. I love driving it. I love how I don't worry about it maybe not going when the light turns green. And according to Oscar, I look hot in it. (AWK-ward). It has a lot of cool little features, including an automatic trunk open-upper on the inside in case I get locked in, though I think all cars have that now. It also has a little storage slot for my cell phone. And heated mirrors. And an alarm!!

I love my new car. That's the moral of the story. Maybe I'll take a picture of me making a car pose in front of it and post it. Soon.

What a difference a shelf makes

My room looks SO much better with my new book shelf. I bought a bunch of new frames for some pictures I got developed as well, so I got to put the pictures in the new frames in the new book shelf. I love it. I love it all.

Tomorrow, Linda is going to get a couple more things for the house with her birthday cash, so soon I'll update you on the status of our living room. I'm thinking some more of the same shelves to put on either side of our tv stand, and perhaps an other seating apparatus. I'm pretty excited.

Horses

Today I went horseback riding. I don't really DO horses. I've had too many bad experiences. But Linda convinced me to do it. So I did. And I think I'm done with horses now. Nothing bad happened, and it was somewhat entertaining, but I just don't think it's my thing. I was really uncomfortable the whole time (figuratively and literally). It was too muddy, and I kept thinking my horse was going to trip and fall and fall on top of me and I'd be trapped under him and I'd break something. So that's that.

Am I a real live grown-up yet?

So a lot has happened in the last week. Well not really that much, but it feels like a lot. I set up a little investment plan, which was really scary. I don't know why, but that really makes me feel like an adult. I also decided how much I can invest in my work stocks, so I'm glad that got started.

I also, get ready for it, bought a car. Me. A car. I was getting really disappointed because they couldn't find the exact one I wanted... I four door, standard, with a/c and power locks/windows, in black. They had it in red, but it has this tan interior that created some kind of internal rage the minute I sad in it. They had it in automatic, but I REALLY don't want another automatic, and it's harder to talk on my phone whilst driving a standard, so hopefully I'll break that nasty habit. They ALSO had it without the a/c and power stuff, but I really didn't want to have to unlock my car with a key every time and die of stifling heat in the summer. And finally, they had the hatchback, but there was something about it that I didn't really like.

In any event, I was sad that I was going to have to settle, and I didn't want to have to settle. So I worked my charm (and Oscar, my salesman, worked HIS charm on his boss who in turn found one in Quebec and also had a little crush on me after he looked at my phone and saw a picture of me and liked what he saw) and everything worked out in the end. SO, in 10-15 days, I will be the proud owner of a new car! Can you even stand it? I can't!!!

Yay for me. And I guess I'm growing up.

Happy Birthday Linda!

It's Linda's Birthday today, the big 2-5!

I hope you have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally on the mend, I think.

I still feel a little woozy and have a bit of a sore throat, but I'm getting better. Thankfully. I wasn't sure how much more I could take!

I watched the Project Runway marathon yesterday, and had dreams about sewing and fashion shows. I think I wore a weird dress made out of feathers... weird.

I have to go to work again tomorrow, but it's an easy day, no real working, just getting to the city where we start the next day. So I'll be able to veg and relax more tomorrow. Then I get to visit Kristen and Jordan again, though I think Kristen is a little under the weather as well... I hope I didn't give her my nastiness, cause that would be horrible.

That's all I really have to say right now... Except I'm worried that Jeff Valin isn't on breakfast television anymore because I haven't seen him in a while, but I haven't really investigated at all. Hopefully he's just on vacation or something. I know a bunch of City TV workers got their jobs cut... I'm hoping he wasn't one of them. He's my TV boyfriend, by the way, if you're wondering why I care so much. Well not my fake tv boyfriend, because that would be McDreamy, but my real tv boyfriend, as in he is himself on tv. Make sense?

K well I just looked for him on the website and he's NOT THERE. WHERE HAS JEFF VALIN GONE?????? Someone please tell me!

I've calmed down a bit, but still, concerned. About the whereabouts of my real tv boyfriend.

I'm dying

Death by throat pain. I have the most swollen throat ever... and pussiest. I open my mouth, and it's white. White from pus. I can barely swallow. It takes about 30 seconds to muster the strength to swallow, and then my face goes into this sour cringed with pain face. It's terrible. This is really really nasty. I hope it goes away. Now.

Return of the Pumpkin Spice!!!!!

I'm quietly minding my own business this morning, standing in line at Starbucks, ready to get myself, Katie and her sister a tasty beverage to help start the morning when I see a peculiarly unfamiliar syrup amongst the others. Hmmmm, I thought to myself, I wonder if I'll need to learn a new drink. I then heard someone utter the word "pumpkin", and my heart started to race. Pumpkin Spice??? PUMPKIN SPICE????!!!! I approach the till with tentative steps, and ask "did I hear that you have pumpkin spice?" "Yes! We JUST got it!" Those were the most delicious words I have ever heard. So here I am, at home, enjoying my first of MANY pumpkin spice lattes. This is bliss. Now, when does the Cinnamon Dolce come back?!?

Home

I'm home. I really have nothing to say. I worked. Went to Fort Lauderdale. It was busy. Very very busy. Stayed in Ottawa and then in the "T Dot". I really don't have anything more to say about that.

Tonight I think I'm chillin with Katie and Sarah, some of the BSD Bitches reunited, gonna have a little fun I think.

I'm watching the George Michael video "I'm never gonna dance again... guilty feet they have no rhythm"... it's a really good one. I can't remember the actual title of the song though, or if it's just George Michael or Wham!. Either way, it's hard to think that people thought he was straight. He was the gayest straight guy ever. Especially in all those short shorts. Funny stuff.

That's it that's all.

Grey's Overload

Now before anyone gets too excited, let me just say, there is no way I could get sick of Grey's Anatomy, and I love it more and more every time I watch it.

BUT, in the recent weeks, I have a) purchased season one of Grey's and watched it all in two days, b) watched Grey's every day at 11:00 am because the View is no longer on, and c) am planning on watching it tonight (as long as it isn't on at the same time as Big Brother). SO all in all, I've gotten a LOT of McDreamy in the past little while. Now this is both delicious and not so great. Delicious because he's McDreamy, and he's the sexiest guy there is, but not so great because every guy I see in real life gets compared to McDreamy, and doesn't come close to his McDreamyness. Also, yesterday's episode involved McSteamy, who is almost as amazing as McDreamy, and today there was Denny. Oh Denny... How I love Denny. And I can't help but look forward to the premier of season three, where I get to be reacquainted with McVet. I've gotten hot men of Grey's overload, and it's taking over my life!

The past few nights I've been dreaming that something terrible happens to me, I have to go to the hospital, and I end up having McDreamy as my doctor, share a room with Denny, and McSteamy gets in there somewhere... maybe I need stitches or something. Either way, I wake up feel pitifully depressed that I don't ACTUALLY live in the life of Grey's.

I'm not really sure what I should do about my predicament. I could cut myself off of Grey's and get back to reality and realize that real live guys aren't actually as hot as the McHotties and Denny, or I could pre-order season two, watch a Grey's marathon in time for season three to begin, and continue living my life trying to get into little accidents so that I have to go to the hospital and will run into one of the Grey's hotties. I'm leaning towards the latter, since it's just much more fun that way! A girl can dream can't she?? I just can't get over that smoldering stare that McDreamy gives Meredith in the elevators... Man he's SO HOT.

Now the next step is trying to find someone who is just as Dreamy as the original! Any suggestions?

Tired.

I just got back from a four day pairing where I got to see my sister AND party in Montreal... how much better can things get??

Kristen and Jordan had prepared a delicious noodly steaky veggiey salad for me, as well as CUPCAKES that were lemony and with cream cheese icing. The best! Such a nice birthday surprise. We had a nice evening together, and luckily Jordan didn't turn the sleep number bed into a giant pit like last time.

The next day was boring... Edmonton... blech.

Next day, got into Montreal around 1 pm ish, I went to the mall and got some stuff at H & M, for the first time ever. Then had a really nice dinner, then the whole crew of Vaness's friends from last weekend and I went to this bar about 45 minutes from Montreal in the middle of the mountains on the side of the highway, where I think there were somewhere between 3000 and 5000 people there. Seriously. I'm not even kidding. How is this possible? How is Calgary so lame compared to Montreal? I just don't get it!!! Anyways we partied it up and I was a little bit tired this morning, but survived!!!

It was a great pairing, but now it's time for a nap!

Mattresses and wireless

So I got my birthday present delivered today... and it's a brand spanking new mattress and box spring and frame. Oh it's sooooooooo nice. I can't WAIT to go to bed tonight. For real.

I also got a wireless router, which was an old one that my dad had, not that I'm complaining because I'm VERY happy to have it, used or new. I open a present, and it's a plug, and a router. And that's it. No box, no instructions, no nothing. It was pretty funny, but it made my life quite easy since all I did was plug the plug into the wall, connect to the internet, and BAM it starts working! Now all I have to figure out is how to change the name from Highland Hollow, because I don't want the people scamming my free internet to think I'm some crazy who names their house!

My birthday was pretty relaxing, nothing too special. Linda made me breakfast in bed, which was so nice since I was sad that no one was here to do it for me this year. Then I just kinda chilled out, then Yvette came over, we went and bought Grey's Anatomy season one (as well as some Chapelle's Show) and watched three episodes whilst eating gummy worms and willowcrisps (which are welfare crispy crunches). Then Sarah, Linda and I went to Papa's for sups and ate more than should be physically possible, and then to the Ship for some beers. It was very mellow, but I'm still recovering from my 5 day bender in Montreal. I'll say thanks to everyone who sent their birthday wishes, and thanks Kristen and Jordan for my George Foreman Grill!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to make bacon. Mmmmmm, bacon.

Anyways, today I'm going for sushi with the g-ma and cousins, though I really still am full from supper last night. I'll have to make room, because there's ALWAYS room for sushi, really.

That was my HUGE birthday celebration... the big ole 2-2. I don't really feel old, but maybe in a while I will. It just doesn't feel very different. I'm just sayin!

Real Montreal Update

So I'll try to tell you the tales of the trip. We went out on Thursday, to a place called Karina's on crescent. This is the place where all the hot spots are, and was within walking distance of our hotel (kind of). We hung out there, had some drinks, met up with Vanessa's friend Tyler and his friends. I guess I had a few more drinks than anticipated... the evening ended up with me a little ill. I was also quite ill the next morning. BUT, I persevered and went shopping on Saint Catherine's with the girls (though Vanessa and I met them a little later than expected.)

So the next night, we got all dolled up (again) and had a sushi dinner with the girls and Tyler and his friends again, then went to Newtown, a really cool club. We had this "VIP" room there, which was this long couch against the wall and there was this beaded curtain thing separating it from the rest of the club. AND, in Montreal, you can order a whole 40 of booze along with mixers, and then you just make your own drinks. It ends up being cheaper than ordering 40 drinks, so if you're in for a good night, it's the way to go. I had never heard of that before, so it was really cool. So the bottles of Skyy Vodka kept coming and we kept on drinking it! The night ended and we walked back to our hotel to find a guy drunk passed out on the floor outside our hotel room. We later recognized him from the room down the hall, so we coaxed him back to his room and had a HUGE laugh about it.

The next day we walked around old Montreal and saw a bunch of things, street performers, old things, and that big church where Celine Dion got married. I'd been in there before, but man it's pretty crazy how gorgeous it is! I really enjoyed the tour we had, and the guide's voice was so soothing I almost fell asleep a bunch of times. It was quite nice. We returned to our hotel room to find a note slid under the door addressed to the "sexy ladies who share our floor" inviting us to have a little get together in their room before our evening's festivities, all written in rhymes. It was SO funny.. I can't remember exactly what was said but in ended on "circle what your answer is" and there was a "yes" and a "no" and then a little note with an arrow that said "pick this one" pointing to the "yes". We decided to get a little more info so we wrote them a note back in rhymes, asking them who they were, where they were from, how old they were, yada yada. They were waiting for it, and through our peep whole we watched them all huddle around the note reading it. We felt little kids passing notes back and forth, but we thought it was really funny so we played along. Eventually after a few notes back and forth they called us to make sure we were coming, and we decided what the hell let's go and we'll leave if it got weird. There were 5 of us and we figured we'd be safe and make sure the door was open. So we got there, there was a bath tub FULL of booze, and we laughed and talked and saw the passed out guy who was in front of our room the night before... we heard the whole story surrounding that and it was pretty freaking funny. We went out to another club, then left and ate some poutine at 2 am and called it a night.

The next day I was supposed to leave but all the flights were full, so I decided to stay another night with Vanessa and then leave on Monday. SO Vanessa, Tyler, Seb and I went to Tyler's friends cabin and went boating. It was so fun. We went back to the West Island, rode on the motorcycle, watched tv, drank some tequila, and I didn't end up sleeping at all, so I had a GREAT flight from Montreal to Calgary at 8:50 (which meant I had to be there at 5:50) in yesterday's clothes, not having brushed my teeth or anything. It wasn't too pleasant. I slept for about 6 hours yesterday and then went to bed at 10 and woke up at 8:30, so I hope I'm all caught up. My camera died after about 2 pictures, so I'll have to get all the pics from friends and then I'll share them with y'all. Tomorrow is the big 2-2 birthday, so we'll see what's in store for that.

So that's the big update. It felt like I did a lot more than that... but all written down it seems like all I did was drink. Oh wait, I guess that kind of is all I did. Oh well... it was a blast.

Montreal, and no liquids

So I went to Montreal to party. It was very fun. I also flew on the first day of this whole liquid ban, AS A PASSENGER, so things were a little hairy. I will write about my Montreal trip later, when I'm slightly more rested (since I didn't go to bed last night AT ALL)... but as a little teaser, I rode a motorcycle!!! I real one! Something I told myself I'd never do... well I did it, and almost died of fright/excitement. I haven't decided if I want to do it again yet. But it was definitely cool. But back to the liquids thing. No one (except aircrew, thankfully, because I could not work without my hair product or makeup... seriously) is allowed to bring any liquid whatsoever onto the aircraft in their carry-on. That means a bottle of water, a cup of coffee, mascara, lipgloss, lotion, purfume, Advil liquidgel headache pills, etc. etc. BUT, parents traveling with infants and children are allowed to bring formula, breastmilk, and juice for their children. I don't know about you, but doesn't that totally not make sense? So, if I were wanting to bring liquid explosives onto an aircraft to blow it up, I could just bring a baby with me and they wouldn't question my liquids. Does that not make this whole liquid ban totally useless? Am I missing something? I'm just putting it out there.

More Montreal updates later. Promise.

New Unis

I've been getting a little slack from SOME people for not posting enough, but understand I'm gone a lot! AND my internet is going through menopause so I never know when it'll be working or not.

Anyway, as I have mentioned, we have gotten new uniforms. The pants I love, obviously, since they don't double as a bra and actually sit lower down on the waist. The Jacket, not so great since it has major shoulder pads and I'm not really keen on looking like a linebacker. The shirts, I'm enjoying, since they are a little more exciting than plain white. They are a little too busy when worn on their own, but nice when under the vest.

So I'm asking you, if you've seen them, what do you think? I just had to fill out a survey about them giving feedback etc. and I wrote that I would like the option of having a skirt. Normally, I wouldn't be so excited about a skirt, but I think they look really nice and official... and when looking at "big red"'s (as they say in the industry when trying not to name names) new uniforms, their skirts look great. There was an article in the Herald about our new uniforms, saying they're "glitzy" or something like that, but I've heard from some they look stupid. Any thoughts? I won't be offended, since I'm normally the first to diss my own uniform.

I just thought I'd ask. A little convo starter. If you haven't seen them, well you can just pretend.

Working?

I think my internet is working, but then it stops, then it starts, stops, starts... etc. I think you get the drift. The cable guy is coming, and I hope he fixes it.

I just got back from a three day and I leave again tomorrow for another three day. Then I'm back for a bit, then to Montreal!!!!! I can't even tell you how excited I am, and I heard rumours that we are going out classy style for my birthday one night so little black dresses are in order! I can not wait! Hopefully this pairing will fly by and then it's party time! I get to chill with Kristen again on Monday, so I'm VERY excited about that. This little visit we had on Thursday was very nice. I ended up doing a little bit of walking since I walked back and forth between their apartment and my hotel a total of three times... I kept forgetting things and all that... But it was quite nice. They appreciated the cupcakes that I brought them, and even let me have one! How generous. Ah crap I just remembered that I was supposed to get them something at the grocery store but I forgot when I was there an hour ago. Shoot. I'll have to go tomorrow before work. Anyways! That was a little train of thought side bar moment.

Tonight I think I'm going out with Jess for a bit... should be a good time. And then, to bed in my own bed for one sweet night, get up and pack for another day's work! Such a life.

Hope things are going well with everyone!!

Down down down...

My internet is down. I'm frustrated. Everyday I see that stupid light blinking, meaning "no, you don't get to check your e-mail today" and it will be August 12 before someone comes to look at it. Shitty.

Meanwhile, I have started working at Starbucks as well as my current job... I'm quite excited about the discounts etc. as well as the extra money and just something to do on my days off. I started today, and work tomorrow and the next day, then I'm flying for a while, then working some more. The shifts are pretty short, so it's not really anything too taxing. We'll see how it goes!

I've seen lots of friends and had some fun over the last week I've been off, so that's pretty good. Nothing too interesting to report though. Partied... that's about all I can say!

I get to see K and J on Thursday and Sunday, since my overnights conveniently end up in Ottawa, and the hotel is not too far from their house. I might have to fanangle some Crave Cupcakes in my luggage... we'll see how that works! Hopefully they'll end up in one peice! (Or at least close!)

That's all I've got for today... New blog appearance is no where near in the works... I need to find myself an e-geek to help me. It's not looking good.

Blog

I'm totally sick of the look of my blog. It's been almost a year, and I definitely need something new. None of the "already made" ones jump out at me... but I'm not really sure how to make my own. Any suggestions?

Honking

Since when did guys ACTUALLY think that honking their horns, saying something witty like "hey baby enjoying the summer?" and then inviting me to jump in the back of his car so that we could go for a drink would work as a pick up line????????? Am I suddenly so stupid that a) I would think he was cool because he thought to honk his horn at me, and b) that I would actually get into to some strange guy's car to go for a drink, and c) actually care that he seemed genuinely upset and surprised when I didn't agree?

Seriously... Don't honk.

Sheesh........a

Tonight I went to a sheesha bar with Andrew (a friend from a while ago and there is a slightly twisted story that goes along with it... you can ask me sometime). I didn't know such a place existed in Calgary. Anyway, we walked in and there are tables and a whole wall full of hooka (spelling?) pipes. So you order the flavour of tobacco you want, and they bring it to you all ready to go. We chose cherry cola, which was quite nice actually. So we sat and puffed on our cherry cola sheesha for a few hours and "shot the shit". It was so nice to hang out with a real guy and not think about all the stuff that comes with hanging out with guys. He already knows me, I don't have to "impress" him, and we just had a great time. I know I don't actually have to impress anyone, cause I'm great the way I am, but it's hard to get to the point where the person realizes that, you know? Don't get me wrong, I love being single and getting to "play the field" (in a non nasty way), but I don't like all the politics that go along with it. That's pretty much what I have to say about that.

Tonight was great, and a little update is that I just received a text from him telling me that I rock, and that he just wanted me to know that.

El Estampido etc.

The Stampede came and went. I went down a total of three times, once for about 5 minutes, the second time for a LONG time with Vanessa (which involved looking at the slicer dicers and then going to Nashville North from 4:30 until 2:00) and the third time to watch the Chuckwagon Races (in the fancy dancy right up close and getting sprayed with dirt from the out riders spot) and go to Ranahan's with Jackie and Mum even though I wasn't dressed according to the code. All in all Stampede was fun.

Then I worked again, and spent the first night in Winnipeg (my first time!) and THAT involved chilling with Yvette and her friends. The one friend who was driving happened to be driving a 1965 Impala with hydraulics. Seriously. I got picked up at the Hilton in an Impala, with the back end all up in the air and the front end all down, and then upon getting in the car making all sorts of hydraulicky noises and each corner going up and down. It was freaking crazy. We went to a bar, drank some beers, drove around, got Wendy's, and then I got dropped off again at about 4:00. It was so surreal. The next day I slept till 2, sat around the pool in 35 degree heat and then checked in for work at 6:45. Such a rough life I lead! I guess things got a little rough yesterday in the air, since we had a batch of nasty turbulence, but that's about it!

I got home today, had sups at my dad's house, and came home bearing leftover BBQ chicken, a coffee maker, ex candy buffet jars for flour and coffee etc. and ex candy buffet spoons for soup. It was sweet! I love going to my parents houses and coming home with a bunch of loot. This is sweet!

I leave again soon but come back on Monday and have the rest of the month off. I think I might be getting a visit from a certain Miss Quinney on Tuesday, so that's exciting.

And happy visiting to mum and Kristen and Jordan and hopefully it isn't too hot there!!

Been a while!

It seems like it's been forever since I posted, and even a while since I've been home! Lots is going on, and it's hard to find the time to do everything that I need to do. Right now, I'm posting from my NEW home where I JUST got internet working, and while I'm posting, I'm watching Live with Regis and Kelly since I JUST got cable as well!! I definitely would still be sleeping if the cable guy wasn't coming today, but alas, he came, and I'm awake.

I had some breakfast in my new place, and when I went to get a spoon from my silverware drawer, I noticed that I only have two knives. I have about 12 little spoons, 12 big spoons, a bunch of forks, and two knives. How weird. This isn't really a good thing, since if Linda and I both wanted to eat, and then the next night we both wanted to eat again, we wouldn't have any knives on the second night. I wonder where they are! We had a bunch at our place didn't we Kristen???

Speaking of Kristen, I didn't get a chance to post yesterday because something very wonky happened with my computer at my mums house, but it was her birthday yesterday and so HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRISTEN!!!!!!!!

I feel bad since I posted this big old picture of Jordan on his birthday, and wrote this whole schpiel about how great he was, and then I didn't post anything for Kristen. BUT, before you all say "what an awful sister, but what a kind sister-in-law", I should say that I ALMOST took a delay on the flight from Edmonton to Calgary yesterday because I was standing in the front galley talking to my sister on my cell phone! AND, even when I called one number and it was some random construction company which was clearly the wrong number, I didn't give up, and called my mum, got the number, THEN called Kristen to wish her a happy birthday. I made women and children WAIT at the gate to board their flight so I could wish my dear old sister a happy birthday!!! SO, really, what's a crappy post, when I made people WAIT to fly to their destination and possibly cost my company a fair amount of money so that I could speak with Kristen the birthday girl! So there!!!

Anyways, I have a big day ahead of me. I have to run a WHOLE bunch of messages (which is my mum's word for errands) and get a bunch of shiat for the place like cleaning stuff, garbage bags, blah blah, visit my mum, and hopefully do a few more things with my place. There's crap everywhere, and I'm not so fond of it.

Sitting here on my couch watching tv, I'm noticing how sad our little tv stand is. First off, it was the weirdest thing to put together. In the instructions, there is a little picture of a pair of hands putting gloves on, and then the gloved hands are turning the legs on the table. Then, there is a picture of NON gloved hands turning the legs with a big X through it. I don't understand. Why do you need to wear gloves to spin legs around? So when we weren't making things work, and when all the legs were at different heights, we kept laughing and saying it was because we weren't wearing gloves. It seriously really weird. Once I find a scanner, I'll put up the instructions. It's totally weird. But anyway, that was a little side rant... The point is we have this giant wall, and this tiny tv stand that's straining to hold this heavy ass tv. I think we need a real kind of centre thingy that hold lots of stuff... and takes up more of the wall.

I also want to go down to the stampede and go into the roundup centre and look at all the slicer dicer things, but I don't know if anyone can go with me! I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone these days, which sucks, but I realize that everyone doesn't have full days off in a row like I have. But yeah, I would like to go to the stampede, so anyone wanna go??

So that's it... all I have to say for now. Check ya later.

Moving Day

I hate packing. And moving.

Tomorrow and the next day I get to spend my two days off doing both of those things. This is honestly one of the very few times I wish I had a boyfriend. When I moved out before, I even had the boyfriend's FRIEND moving (said boyfriend not actually helping), and then moving back in involved the boyfriend since I guilted him the entire time I lived in the apartment that he didn't help at all with the moving in portion. I also had a (future) brother in law helping.

Who do I have now? Part of me is like "oh, I'm independent, I can do it by myself. What. What. You don't know me" but then I remember I have to move things like full tables which aren't taken apart, and realize that no matter how much I love being single and not having anyone to answer to, I don't have four foot long arms.

When we moved in to the last apartment, I actually did quite a bit of moving by myself, but it was mostly box type stuff, not so much full on tables and queen sized mattress and box spring. My pops lovingly volunteered, which I very much appreciate, but only after trying to convince me to call Devin and Nathan, to which I responded "that's not really something I'd ask him to do" and "yeah right fat chance of him helping" to those options, respectively.

So blech to the idea of packing and moving. All day. Twice. This sucks. BUT, Friday night, we will celebrate, in a big way. With a cocktail or two. And going out. To Cowboys perhaps, to celebrate the first night of Stampede. (Cowboys is on the table only because I get in for free, just to defend myself a little bit here. And it's better at stampede, with the big tent thingy and all.)

Anyone wanna help move?

Oh, and for anyone who cares, I did ALL announcements on my flights today sans cue cards. Saweeeeeet!

Canada Day = Hangover

Oooooooouuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhh.

Well I'm actually not THAT hungover. Just a little slow in the moving/thinking department. Last night involved me, Vaness, Christian, Kyle and a lot of gin and gingers. A lot. And then a smokie. And me profusely hitting on the obviously gay smokie seller. And the obviously gay smokie seller profusely hitting on me. Then some piggie-backs. All in all, a great evening.

Happy Canada Day!!!!!!!!!

Apartment? Oh yes.

I would like to say "I got an apartment!" but I can't, since I really had nothing to do with it whatsoever. So instead, I will say "Linda got us an apartment!" Yay!

In the area I wanted, decent sized, has a freaking DISHWASHER, good sized rooms, new floors (tile and hardwood), and really it's very nice. The only bad thing is that the building looks slightly like a penitentiary, but the inside is so nice it's hard to care. I'm quite excited.

AND I got a new duvet cover/sheets. I think I'm going to have to go back to IKEA and get the curtains that will go with the new colour scheme. I'm very excited about it since I've been wanting one for SOOOOOOOOO long, and now I don't have to use the random one that I got when I got my bed from someone who didn't want it anymore, (yes, the cover was someone else's... and ugly) and now I can stop complaining. I got some of those weird papery lampy things that hang from the ceiling too. I'm really excited to get my own room that has real things!

We picked up some chairs and a tv stand to go in our place as well, and some other little thing-a-ma-bobs. We're pretty stoked.

Now we just have to wait for those renovations to be finished so we can move in!!!!!!

Days off

It's so nice to have a couple of days off to chill and hang out and not do anything! Well I did do things, like run some errands, make some appointments, look for apartments, (with no luck ps) etc. I've slept in, had lunch with my dad, cleaned my room, did laundry, and that's about it!

I watched Brokeback Mountain FINALLY, and wow it was amazing. I really really liked it. It was very interesting to think of how it must have been to be gay in that time and in that area/lifestyle. I liked how it made me think. Anyways, a great movie for those who haven't seen it yet. It was funny to see Anne Hathaway in a for real movie as opposed to the fluffy princess diaries and that weird one where she was a doll or something. I really enjoyed the evolution of her hair in Brokeback... Funny stuff.

I got my July schedule finally, and it looks pretty good. I've got some good days off, hopefully I'll make another little trip down to Ottawa. I also forgot about the Stampede, so I'm excited to have some fun with my friends going to Nashville North and perhaps Cowboys... (now that I don't have to pay and all).

As far as the apartment hunt, it's not really going so well. We want to live in the Kensington/Hillhurst/Crescent Heights area, and it's just tough to find something now. Everything is rented for July 1st, and people keep telling us to call after July 1st to ask about August 1st, so it's hard to just sit tight and wait. There's a three bedroom that is potentially available soon, so if we can get that, I'll just advertise at work for a third roommate and I'm pretty sure we'll have some luck with that. I'm optimistic, but still frustrated. Anyone have an apartment in that area that they don't want?

That's pretty much my update at this point. Nothing too new to report. Life as a flight attendant is fun, but I do find myself wanting to sit at my kitchen table with my mum and my cat every once in a while. At the same time as wanting a space of my own, I still want my home too! Luckily I still live here so I can have both. (Sorry Kristen... I'm sure you're thinking "umm, yeah, I know how you feel". If I could sit at the kitchen table with Mum and Willow AND you I would be MUCH happier!)

I fly out tomorrow for four days, then I have the whole rest of the month off!!!!!! I have the end of next month off as well, so I'm pretty stoked about that. Looks like I'll be finding an other job pretty quick so that I can afford everything I want to do (like impromptu trips to Ottawa).

All in all, life is good!

Ma Ha!

I'm gloating. Yes. The Oilers LOST. I can't even tell you how much I didn't want them to win. I pretended that I wouldn't MIND if they won, since they ARE Canadian, but in reality, I really just wanted them to lose.

Plus, my favourite ex Flames player Commodore got to win the cup after losing it two years ago!!

I'm SO tough

So Vancouver was awesome. We had SUCH a great time. It was very busy and I'm off again to work tonight, so I will pay for this later, but I'm livin in the NOW baby!

Speaking of living in the now, I did something pretty spur of the moment! I like to do things on instinct, not so planned out... For example, when I was in England, I decided to get my bellybutton pierced when we walked by the piercer. Or in Montreal when I was in grade 11 on a school exchange, I decided to get a tattoo. Well, in true Heather fashion, I decided to tag along with Christian and his friends to the tattoo parlor and got one myself! The night before they said they were getting tattoos, and I thought to myself that I would also enjoy one. Then the next day, I realized they were actually serious, and it was "now or never". So I did it. And I wasn't even CLOSE to as wussy as I thought I'd be. After watching Miami Ink and seeing how much those guys make fun of the girls who cry and stuff, I just COULDN'T be like that. I didn't cry or scream or swear or make her stop or anything... I held Vanessa's hand pretty tightly though. I even laughed a few times! It really didn't hurt as much as I had expected, being on the top of my foot and all. I pictured unbelievable pain, but it really wasn't SO bad. (Oh yeah, it's my zodiac sign... I decided I'm never NOT going to be a Leo, so it's nothing I will ever regret or change my mind about.) I'm pretty stoked about it!

Ta da!

Tired. Oh so freaking tired.

Not because work is hard (since today I had a whopping TWO WHOLE FLIGHTS, one from Montreal to Toronto, and the other from Toronto to Montreal, both being under one hour), but because I insist on NOT SLEEPING. I stayed up last night chatting with Yvette (since she was conveniently in Montreal at the same time) until at least 1 am, and my check-in this morning was at 5:45, then instead of coming back to the hotel and napping, I showered and hopped on the bus / metro and walked around Montreal for 7 hours. Seriously. SERIOUSLY?

And what am I doing tomorrow? Getting back to Calgary at 2:00, going home, re-packing, then going to Vancouver with Vaness for Christian's birthday, coming back on Saturday, then working again on Saturday night until Tuesday morning.

Someone slap some sense into me... please? (But after this weeked in Vancouver k?, because I have a sneaking suspicision it's going to be AWESOME!)

I have a feeling I might die after this... or at least crash. Hard.

Right now, I'm going to bed. (and in my defence, it's 8:00 here, so it's not THAT bad.)

Sexy Pictures

I wonder how many times this post will pop on google searches when someone is looking for porno?

Anyways, I promised sexy pictures of me in my new glasses, and I've honestly only taken one picture so far, and that was with Steph in the car waiting to cross the US border to go shopping in Seattle. So here you go.

Now I know how Jordan feels when everyone compliments his glasses. I've had friends, the guy at the cell phone store, passengers (or "guests" I should say) on my flights, all sorts of people saying that they like my glasses! It feels nice! And I feel so fashionable in my D&G specs!

Made it!

I'm back! And I totally rocked it out!!! I did super well according to the guy who was "testing" me. There were only three of us flight attendants for the four days (when there are normally four), so things were a little busier than normal, but he kept saying that he forgot that he was actually testing me, and that it felt like he was working with a regular crew! And so did the other FA who was working with us! She has been around for years and said it felt really good!

Not to say that I didn't make any mistakes, because I sure did... like forgetting what I'm supposed to say over the PA and things like that, but he said I looked like I had worked there for years! I'm very happy!

Now I just have to stop having vertigo and clutching to things every time I go to walk around in fear that the turbulence will knock me over! (And no, I didn't spill anything on anyone though I ALMOST fell on top of a guy today when some heavy bumps came about.)

So I feel confident, but I know I still have things to learn. But all in all, YAY FOR ME!!!!!

Skeleton Gig

A humourous video... a little something to make you laugh.

Tomorrow, not Today

Apparently I don't know how to read calendars, and once I read something one time, I don't go back to re-read anything to make sure I know what I'm talking about.

My first flight is TOMORROW. Not today. TOMORROW.

So a whole other day to freak out. Great.

I'm a total crack face.

Saturday, June 03, 2006

Eeeeeek!

Tomorrow is my first shift!!! Four whole days of Flight Attendanting starting tomorrow! I'm nervous, but excited... but nervous. I know that I know my stuff, but it's just nerve racking to have to put it all to use all of a sudden!!!

I hope I do okay!

Know any good jokes to tell the peeps on the plane?

No more heat, and I'm really freaking glad...

...though I'm sad there's no more Kristen and Jordan. I really enjoyed chillin, illin, and keeping it gangsta real with them. It was great, so thanks to them for making things wicked awesome.

Now it's Vancouver with Steph. So far it's been great. On Friday, I think we might go shop a bit in Seattle. That will be fun. I'm stoked for the weather, since it's not 42 degrees outside like it was in a certain city yesterday. It IS raining, but at this point, I'll take anything as long as it's not causing me to be a vapour version of myself, as I was yesterday and the two days previous to that.

More updates later. For now, I'm in van city, and tomorrow I'm going synagogue!!! (for some kind of graduation thingy for Steph's brother, no I'm not a real live jew now, much to my dismay, I'm just going for kicks!)

The heat, my god, THE HEAT

It's really really hot. I mean REALLY hot. I can't even stand it. I couldn't even blow dry my hair all the way this morning, because I almost passed out from the HEAT. It's really really hot.

Oh, it's super great to see Kristen and Jordan. They're doing very well, and enjoying my company (I think.) Tonight we're going to have a NICE sushi dinner compliments of mum. (Thanks!!!)

I think part of today's activities will be the purchase of a fan.

The heat. It's killing me.

Travelling the world!!!!

Well, maybe just a bit of Canada.

I'm going to Ottawa tomorrow! And then, if it all works out, I'll be going to Vancouver on Wednesday! Then back to Calgary on Saturday!

Wooooooo Weeeeeee! Can't WAIT to see Kristen! Yay!

I think that's enough exclamation marks for one post.

SO Close

Well, I'm not too far away from being a real live flight attendant! I passed my final exam, so I'm *basically* in the clear. I still have a bit of first aid, going up in a crazy plane and then my "follow-up flight" left before I'm totally fully a flight attendant. But hopefully I don't mess anything up too badly and then I'm good to go!! Can you even stand it?

I'm hoping to plan a little trip next week, potentially to Vancouver and then to Ottawa, so I'll finally take advantage of my flight privileges! How fun!

That's really all I have to say... I got in trouble from a certain someone for not updating my blog enough, so I'm trying!!! OK?

I got my glasses today. Sexy pictures to follow.

Weekend = Not as boring as originally anticipated

As the title indicated, my weekend wasn't really as boring as I thought it would be. I bought a new tv (and by I, I mean my mum but I carried it) for the kitchen since our precious yellow one died. Then I chilled with Linda and watched movies and drank Starbuck's. Then I saw one of my best friends from high school who I haven't seen in almost 5 years, which was AWESOME... Though the evening ended with slightly more excitement than I had anticipated (not in a dirty way... I'll tell the story some other time). And then I chilled with some work people, and today I have to bake some muffins and study.

Upon re-reading that, it really wasn't chock-full of entertainment, but a lot less boring than the dullsville I had imagines.

Tomorrow I start my very last week of training. I already have my schedule for June, and it takes me to a lot of fun places (and a lot of not fun places too) but unfortunately no overnights in Ottawa. I think I'll plan a trip out there before I start... I have 4 or 5 days off after training and before my first shift, so I think I'll try fanangle something for then. I AM however going to Vegas and Orlando, though no overnights. Still, that's pretty cool.

So tomorrow I have my final, and I'm not really too sure why but we have to wear our uniforms, so Kirsten, I'll show up at your place all decked out. (I actually died a little bit thinking about eating dinner with my pants pulled almost to my breasts. I think I'll bring a change of clothes and change in the car before I get there.)

And I realized that I actually have 4 days left... I somehow got confused, so I'm still done on Saturday, but I have another day in there somewhere. It's all good... I'm still done soon!

Wish me luck!

Dullsville

My life is kind of boring. Well today it is. Now that most of my friends are not in Calgary anymore and the ones who are work almost every single day, I feel like I'm sitting around doing nothing. I do have a pretty action packed life when I'm working/training, but these five days off are KILLING ME! I thought I'd be so happy to just chill, but chilling alone isn't really that fun. *Sigh*

Yesterday I picked out new glasses. They are expensive. The combination of an extremely strong prescription and extremely picky me makes for very expensive glasses. I'm stoked for them though. I think I'll get them on Tuesday. That's something to look forward to.

I only have three days left of training. Tuesday is my final exam, Thursday is when we learn how to use the dephibrilator (can't spell that), and Saturday we go up in a plane and do rolly rapid descents and wobbles and fishtailing etc. FUN. Then I'm done. I'm a real live Flight Attendant. Crazy.

So that's what's going on with me right now... kinda bored, kinda relaxing, kinda wishing I had more of a life... Stay tuned for an "after" shot of me in my uniform pants... they really aren't as bad, though still quite horrific. I don't feel SO nasty in them, and they don't double as parachutes, though I still am not wild about them.

Anyone who's doing something great this weekend, call me!

How do we know summer is (kinda sorta) here?

Because I have a sunburn.

Summer is NEVER summer without me having at least 3 terribly horrific sunburns.

I inevitably forget to put my SPF45 on some part of my body (though yesterday I only put it on my arms, don't ask me why, and even still I have a burn on them, so really what was the point?)

These pictures don't really do it justice, but here's a little something to make you giggle. (And point and laugh)

Bye Steph! *Sniff Sniff*

So today ends the legacy that is Heather and Steph. She goes back to Vancouver, then to Montreal then to Camp then to London (with a day in Calgary in there somewhere, oh yeah and some time somewhere else), where she will stay, for a long long long time. I can't even get into it, because I'll get really really sad and no one likes it when I cry, because I rarely cute cry, it's normally ugly crying like what happened at the wedding and I hence ruined the video because all you can hear is "sniff sniff, wipe my nose which makes my bangles bangle and then all you can hear is bangling", so I won't get into it.

But I WILL say, Steph, I'll miss you a lot, and thanks for having me stay at your place for the past while so we could chill, even though as SOMEONE likes to remind me every five minutes that I didn't pay rent, but oh, I paid my rent in love, caringness, letting you laugh at me in my uniform, and doing the dishes after I eat!

I'll come visit soon (I hope!) and you're the greatest. I'm going to miss you a lot a lot!

And thanks to you, I have a new photo face. (It's my tribute to you really, AND I don't have chins in as many pics anymore!)

Facebook and Beers

So apparently all the cool kids are on facebook. I'm still not exactly sure what it is, but I'm on it. I think it's a way of seeing how many friends you have... So far I'm up to 4. Wooo weee four friends. Can someone explain what it is? And if you know, add me so I don't look so pathetic next to Steph's 548930584309568 friends.

Tonight I went for beers. With Steph and some Flight Attendant friends. (The lack of writing skills is because of the beers. How nice to drink beers and not have to worry about getting up at 6:00 to go to class/training/school tomorrow since I have the DAY OFF!)

I'm very much looking forward to sleeping in, though I still have to go to the airport to get some security pass... apparently it's important to get a security pass... who knew??

Good news of today? I am no longer makiing a pitiful 7$ an hour for training, but over triple!!! Our salary got re-negociated so we get our salary for training, so as of May first I'm no longer a pverty stricken trainee!!! (side note, I realize that isn't ACTUALLY poverty stricken, but it feels like it.)

That is all, I'm going to bed, sleep off the beers.

But I'm still on a high for not crying through the drill... I rocked that drill like nobody's business.

Did it!

So I did a drill, on a plane, with the lights off, with the sound track playing screaming and stuff... and I totally rocked it out! WOOOOOOOOO!

On a side note, my palms hurt from opening so many doors all day. Those damn plane doors are HEAVY!

Thursday, May 04, 2006

Fire!!!

Yesterday I finally got my chance with the fire. A shed with gasoline (or some kind of fuel) seeping into what used to be an airline chair was where I had my debut as a firefighting machine!

I cried out "I have a fire in the overhead bin! Inform the captain and get me backup!", tore off that witness wire, whipped out that pin, aimed at the base and swept that extinguisher side to side with gusto! I then slowly backed away, never once turning my back on the now smouldering seat frame.

It was a rush (though slightly less exciting than I had hoped). Hopefully I won't forget what to do when/if the time ever comes! I think someone may have gotten a picture, so if I ever get my hands on it, you KNOW I'll be showing you!

So if you ever have any fires, just call me up and I'll be right over, because I am now trained with LIVE firefighting!

Freaking Out

So today I kind of lost it...

We're doing "emergency drills". Planned and unplanned land and water evacuations. Not really uplifting material to start with, but I can deal with that.

What I can't deal with are the actual drills. (Drill = Us doing what we would actually be doing if we were evacuating an aircraft. We have a set "script" of what we say scream to get people out asap).

We watch videos of people doing drills, and all the while my eyes are welling up with tears, and I'm pretty much loosing it. Then when people in our class did live drills tears were streaming down my face. I'm seriously freaking out.

I'm scared that I won't be able to do it.

What scares me more is that I'm a super outgoing person who is never scared to take control of a situation. So why am I petrified that I will not be able to do this? I am absolutely terrified that I will cry or panic or freeze and be responsible for these people with mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters and children not getting out of the aircraft alive.

After class I talked to my instructor and in about four seconds I was sobbing. She said that she was surprised that I made it to day 6, because for her she lost it on day four, when we watched the video with interviews with survivors of aircraft fires where almost everyone died. She said she cried and cried in front of the whole class, and almost quit. I was honestly feeling like that today, because if I can't do these drills effectively, I can't be a flight attendant. And I really don't know if I can do them.

I felt reassured by what she told me, and how she told me I should ask those around me to remind me of situations where I HAVE taken control and gotten out of sticky situations. She said that I shouldn't hide my feelings from anyone, especially myself... And that it's commendable that I'm seeing it and coming to her for help. She also told me that she had no doubt in her mind that I would be able to get through it, and that I'd be ok. She said that if I cry the whole way through my first drill, it's okay, and I just need to try again. She also said it shows that I'm a good person, and that I'm concerned for these people, and not looking at it like a drill. What I don't get is when I'm watching a video on a fake plane with no actual passengers on it I'm freaking out about me not doing it. It's all hypothetical. So why am I freaking out??????

If I somehow make it through the "unplanned" landings, which means we have no warning of the emergency landing until it happens, so we really don't ever have to see any of the passengers until we're telling them to cross their arms and jump and slide, my next hurdle is the "planned" landings, where we have about 30 minutes warning, so we stand in the cabins and stare at the passengers while the captain announces that we're having an emergency landing, and I'm the one who is supposed to guide them through and reassure them we'll all be okay. I'm the one who assigns duties, and talks to the people sitting next to people who need more help, like mothers with infants and unaccompanied minors. How can I stand there and keep it together? What can I do to dissociate myself? I really don't know.

I'm scared. I'm overwhelmed. And I cry anytime anyone shouts. And I have to shout. A lot.

Week one done!

I finished my first week of training... only three more to go!

I had three exams, simulated the putting up of the life raft (which is HUGE by the way), went in a fake plane, and learned about a bagillion things. People should feel VERY safe when flying! Seriously... they call us "safety professionals"!

Monday, I get to fight a real live fire!!!

That's about all I've got.

Goal for tomorrow: Find someone to do something about those pants.

Photo What-day-is-it-again?

Notice where the sleeves end and where the pants begin. *Note that these are not abnormally long sleeves.

I honestly don't even know what to say about this picture. It really makes me want to die inside.

The most important lesson learned today:

There is absolutely no rule (or law for that matter) prohibiting the joining of the mile high club.

Go Flames Go

So last night we decided that after a day full of drinking, chinese food, a dance break (pictured below), napping with eyes open and watching the game (seriously, we were on Steph's patio by 2:30 drinking drinks until about 5:25, then chinese food then open eye napping and game watching) that we should head on down to the Red Mile (and by we I mean us sans Steph because she seriously wouln't have made it). When the Red Mile was "founded", I was in St. Isidore nannying, so I missed all the hoopla. So I had my first Red Mile experience and it was actually pretty fun! There were lots of POlice making sure girls didn't flash anyone (though Elliot managed to see one pair) and making sure there wasn't any public drinking (I think they must have missed the guy with a beer bong and a backpack full of beers). Other than that, it was a good time had by all, and it was a great way of celebrating the end of my degree and my new job!

Highest pants EVER!

So I get to wear these fab pants... They sit three ever-so-painful inches above my belly button. Seriously. Above. The. Belly. Button.

Then, I get to tuck my shirt into them. Shirt tucked in, three inches above my belly button.

So basically, I have a neck, boobs, and then a very very long crotch. Then, after you continue looking downwards for about five minutes, I have legs.

Luckily, I get to "take in the sides" so that I don't look like a parachute.

If I ever thought I had even a trace of an ass, it's gone now, in my gynormous pants that have to be gynormous so that they fit over my stomach therefore I could easily fit five of my asses into the ass part.

So all in all, the uniform was a big hit. (Actually, the shirt is quite nice, and it actually makes me look half decent... Too bad only a few inches of it shows since the rest is tucked into my pants.)

I also get to wear a vest or sweater (which luckily covers most of the foot long crotch I now have due to the pants mentioned above.)

Also, there is a LANYARD (pronounced "layunyerd") with a quick release at the back of the neck in case people pull on it in a threatening manner. Seriously. The scary thing is, this is a newly implemented rule. So there must be reasons why it was implemented. Crazy.

The best part is the lunch kit. Oh, how I love lunch kits.

Too much all at the same time

As you can see by the title, I have too much going on all at the same time. I have one more paper to write, three more exams to study for and take, get to a whole bunch of new job realted appointmests to make sure I'm not crazy and fit a uniform, and also organize my life in general.

I can't wait until this week is over... so that I can start to enjoy the things that are going on!!!

Shut Up!

I got the job!

Last day...

Tomorrow is my last day of classes.

LAST DAY OF CLASSES.

Woah.

I don't know if I'll be posting TOO much in the next little while. I'm housesitting for a little while and I'll probably be busy. Though I will be writing papers, which means procrastination. So maybe.

But I will post BSD pics when I can. OOoooooh they'll be good.

Day of Hell is Over

Today was pretty much a day of hell.

But it's over. (Though I DID get the purple test of death again... The white and yellow tests are not as difficult as the purple test of death.)

Now I just have to finish up a paper due on Wednesday, and then it's BSD! I've never looked forward to a day of standing around in a field drinking so much! And this yeah I'll actually be wearing Bermuda Shorts! Imagine that! (though they're cute trendy Bermuda Shorts... Courtesy of Katie... How I fit into her shorts is another question altogether though.)

So that is that. I have a few days of rest, then the final sprint!!! And then it's ALL OVER.

Extreme Bad Mood

You know when you're just pissed off for not reason? Well that is me. Right now.

The started very well. Went to Nellie's in Kensington with Steph and Elliot (who I spent almost every waking hour with this weekend... I might as well BE them at this point), had a nice little walk from their place over there, ate on the patio, had a nice little walk back... really absolutely nothing to complain about.

Got home. Extreme Bad Mood began.

Decided to start studying for my exam tomorrow. Why on earth would a teacher put something as STUPID on an exam as matching titles of stories (which we HAVEN'T EVEN READ) with their authors???? Is this really important? Do we have nothing more to offer than this? Is THIS what the whole point of the course is? How stupid. Re-damn-diculous.

I decided to start the short little paper thing that's due tomorrow. I can't write it. I don't get the story. Why do I have to do this? It's stupid.

Finished up my stupid presentation. I have nothing intelligent to say about this right now. NOTHING. Why do I have to present the topic of my final paper? Do my classmates give two shits about what my paper is about? Because, no offense to my classmates, I couldn't care less about what they're writing about. What a waste of time. It's stupid.

Then I decided to wash the stupid muffin tins from Steph and my baking extravaganza on Friday. (and by "I decided", I actually mean got SO FED UP with my mother reminding me that I have to wash them because I still live at home that I flipping washed them.) It took me a LONG TIME. How could muffin tins that have been soaking in a sink of water for the last two days STILL BE HARD TO CLEAN?????? Because they are stupid.

I am clearly in a mood. A bad one. I would normally fill the void with ice cream or something deliciously fatty, but I'm full (from the breakfast). I want need some Starbuck's right now. That perhaps might calm me down. But I don't live at a Starbuck's, therefore I would have to go out to get it. And I don't feel like it.

I better get out of this funk before 7:30 or 8:00, because at that time I am going to Katie's house with Sarah and Vaness to make our BSD t-shirts. BSD is fun. T-shirts are fun. Making them is fun. So PLEASE PLEASE go away mood so that I can have fun. PLUS BSD T-shirt making day was when the all-time best quote ever was said. "Kristen, I wanna stay up and drink with the giiiiiiiirrrrrrrllllllllsssssssssss". Jordan, wanna come make BSD T-shirts with us? That would probably cheer me up.

Rant over. Hopefully this is the worst my mood will get.

So far this Saturday has been a lot more productive than last Saturday

Last Saturday, I was a heap on the couch.

This Saturday, so far I have:
  • Woken up early and wrote some of my paper.
  • Showered. (Which is WAY more than I can say about last week)
  • Played Ultimate Frizbee at the Jewish Centre (because I'm such a Jew) with Steph and Elliot and a few other people.
  • Organized myself for my exam on Monday.
  • OK I MIGHT have chilled on the couch for a while, but I feel like I deserve it since I was so productive.
Later, I hope to:
  • Visit with Mo and her baby!
  • Go bowling
  • Relax and NOT think about my papers and tests.
I feel like I am great because I am keeping up with my assignments (relatively speaking) without loosing my mind and also having time to have a life, hang out with my friends and not be a hermit.

Celeb crush of the week

Really, how could you not love George Stroumboulopoulos, host of the hour on CBC. He is "bad boy sexy" and quite smart too. The fact that he's Canadian doesn't hurt either. He came here a couple of months ago, but by the time I got my act together the tickets were all sold out. Instead, I can just watch him, channel 15, 6:00pm. He's good. You should watch.

Quit playing games with my... mind?

So I just got a phone call from the company I am currently DYING to work for. They called to ask me two more behavioural based questions. So I answered them to the best of my ability, though they were HARD. Very hard.

So I'm feeling kind of medium about that. It's a bad thing because I obviously am "on the cusp" of the group... I didn't blow them away and I'm not a "for sure" hire, yet it's a good thing because I obviously didn't BOMB the whole thing, and they want to know more before making a decision. Unless they're just doing this to make me feel better about myself before they tell me I didn't get the job. I really don't know what to think.

The only good thing about this whole situation is that she said "I'm putting your file back in the recruitment pile and you should hear from us in the very near future". So at least I know I won't be in agony for too much longer.

Marketplace

On Sunday night my mum and I sat down to watch Marketplace on CBC. It was a repeat episode that talked about carcinogens, and how they are present in products we use day to day. (Carcinogen, according to the dictionary, is "a substance that produces cancer".) I wasn't aware of this, but companies don't have to list all the ingredients in products, so most don't list the "bad ones". For example, those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers have formaldehyde in them. Sunlight Laundry Detergent has a different carcinogen - this one is listed on the box, though not many people KNOW that it's a cancer causing agent.

SO, with the help of Linda and a little sleuthing of my own, here is the link to a list of cosmetics that have known carcinogens in them. Here's an other link to a list of some carcinogens. The weird thing is that some of the same products are available in Europe but WITHOUT the carcinogens, because they have been banned. So why wouldn't the company just make all of their products without carcinogens instead of making half with and half without?

I'm no scientist, and I really don't know much about all these kinds of things, but to me, if we're consuming things that have KNOWN cancer causing agents in them, this is a problem.

Today, one in two people will get cancer. 50%. That's HUGE. And yes, lots has to do with drinking, smoking, not exercising and all the rest, but not all of it. Some really healthy people get cancer, and they can't understand why. Perhaps it's because they use a certain brand of blush, or toothpaste, or laundry detergent. It's not good that none of us KNOW these things are in our products. Things need to change, in my opinion. So there are my two cents about the issue.

So apparently, this is my 100th post

I wish I some incredibly exciting story to share on this momentous post. But I don't.

I have a VERY busy two weeks of school coming up, but then, dare I say it, I am finished. It's sort of odd, since I've been counting the days all semester, impatiently waiting the end, and now I wish I had an extra month to finish everything. But I will finish. Oh yes, I will get 'er done.

So, time to post something fun. An ode to 100 posts worth of embarassing pictures. To all those who are on this mosaic and didn't want to be, you should know better than to let someone who has a blog take your picture.

Uuuunnnnhhhhhh...

You know when you're so hungover that you say you'll never ever drink again? Well I've had that happen to me once before when I had an unfortunate run in with red wine and a drinking game, and I actually didn't drink for about 4 or 5 months, (and I STILL can't drink red wine) then I slowly started to be physically able to consume alcohol.

Well, I have a feeling I have done that to myself again. Firday night was fun. Lots and lots of fun. Saturday was NOT fun. I slept until 11 ish, woke up, had breakfast, and thought to myself "wow I'm not hungover at all!" Well, I went to the couch, turned on the tv, and did not get up from it until 8:00 (except once to throw up profusely). I pretty much felt like death, with a side of revoltingness. That was NOT fun. Not fun at all. I seriously doubt that I'll drink for a long time, though I will make one exception, and that is for BSD, since I've been looking forward to it since last BSD. It's dumb, rediculous, and so immature, but it's my LAST YEAR OF UNIVERSITY and I deserve to be dumb, rediculous and immature one last time. But seriously, I doubt if I'll even be ABLE to drink, because typing the word DRINK and thinking about consuming one drop of alcohol is making my stomach churn and I'm seriously wondering if I'm going to throw up right now. Oh gross.

Oh and Katie wasn't even there, so I'm the drunky that you can allllll make fun of this time!

Behold the amazing camera skills of Drunky McDrunkerson at about 2:57 am

Special Birthday Edition of Foto Friday

This is Vanessa and me circa 2003 at our staff party... Sorry about such an old one Vaneesh but I figured you'd rather this one than some of the OTHER ones I have of you... And plus I haven't taken any pictures decent pictures of the two of us in a while. In most of the other ones I have, I have chins, and you know how I feel about my chins.

ANYWAYS, Happy Birthday Vaneesh! I love you tons! You're the bestest best friend a girl could have... All together now, AWWWWWWWWWWWW.

Hopefully after tonight I'll have more pictures and then I'll post some SLIGHTLY more recent ones. It'll be a shit show for sure! With Vanessa, it always always is! Happy Birthday Babe!

So much going on...

I don't have too much time, but I'll give y'all a quick update on the interview since I know you're all a-tingle with anticipatory delight.

There were at least 20 people there, one guy and the rest girls. There were about 6 or 7 interviewers, two being flight attendants themselves, a few recruiters, and some other people who are important. It started out with introductions and a bit about WestJet, then we split into groups and did a whole bunch of group activities, meanwhile they pulled each one of us out to do a quick one on one interview. The woman who interviewed me was SUPER nice and made it really easy to be relaxed and not feel all anxious. Then we came back into the big group and the flight attendants told us more about the actualy position and how things work.

I think I did well. I smiled lots, made eye contact, listened to what the other people had to say, said enough for myself, and hopefully I was fabulous enough to impress them. It's really hard to say whether I "out shone" everyone else. I also had to write them an e-mail today to tell them why I want the position again. So I did that, hopefully impressed them. I tried to take things that we learned yesterday and incorporate them into what I said.

The job sounds SO appealing, and I really really really hope I get it. I think I'll be pretty disappointed if I don't get it, just because I feel like I'd be really good at it, and it would be something fun and exciting and new. Although, they told us that they get 1800-2000 applications per week, so the fact that I got invited to an interview does say a lot.

I think it will be up to three weeks before I hear anything, so I'll be anxiously awaiting the result. I'm pretty sure they send out an e-mail, and then they phone later to invite us to a training sessions. (They are 4 weeks long, and the next one starts April 24th, three days after my last exam).

So we shall see. We shall see.

More Band Geekiness

That last post was very gushy... But it was because I was still in the "moment" of it all. After seeing that, I remember why I started to "do" music. People always asked me what made me start, and why it was such a huge part of my life. Since I was 9 years old, music has been a part of my life. Once I got into junior high, I was in 3 bands, then in high school, I was in 4 and sometimes even 5. (yeah yeah, I know I know, geeksville). I played a whole bunch of instruments and I think almost a different one in each band, I had so much music in my folder it was held together with duck tape. I was usually at school from 7:20 until 5 or 3:30 every day of the week, I had sore lips and sore arms, had to drag percussion equipment across the school twice a day, sacrificed many weekends to "band camp" aka doing marching drills and rehearsal after rehearsal for three days straight, had to deal with our poor, frustrated teacher who had to deal with US, had to try to impress the aforementioned Tyler, who had this totally cool guy air about him, walking around with his whole "I'm a musician" vibe which made us swoon over and over again... then horribly disappointing him, even after he took us out for a fancy dinner to "show us some culture".

THEN, I had to deal with probably the hardest thing that I've ever had to deal with when it comes to band, and that is praise. I am not about to brag about this and that, but I was talented, and I guess other people saw that in me. You'd think I'd love that kind of attention, since I do in other parts of my life, but the music praise was tough for me. Getting attention from our guest directors and clinicians at festivals was the worst, (even though it meant the most) because I had to sit there, with the rest of my band, and listen to people offer me full ride scholarships to their universities or asking me if I was a professional and just sitting in for this high school band. All I remember about those kind of situations is the guilt that I felt, since I was getting this attention and the rest of the people in my band weren't, even though some were equally and more talented than I. I wish I could have appreciated it more, but all I felt was embarassment and horrible horrible guilt.

So, going back to the question of why I did music, why I sacrificed so much for it. I never used to have an answer for people, especially my non band classmates when they would ask me why I'm in stupid band as I'm wheeling a marimba after rehearsal across the packed foyer before regular classes started. I used to say "the trips" or "because I like it I guess"... but those never really explained it. But after last night, I remembered a moment that I had, in my very last band festival I ever performed, during this particular song. I got the shivers, and they didn't go away for a few minutes. My OWN playing, along with the rest of the band, gave me the shivers. That is why I did it all. And last night, I got the shivers so many times, and it made me remember all the moments like that. Seeing Tyler's face during certain moments, knowing the kind of feeling he was having... I remember that feeling.

After the concert I got a chance to talk to him, which was great. He remembered be, we chatted about this and that, I told him I wasn't doing too much music stuff now since I didn't have time with school, and he asked me "do you miss it?" and I instantly, without even thinking about my words said "oh yeah... I miss it tons". So I guess I miss it, a lot. We chatted a bit more, he talked about how he really misses our group from high school, then almost died when he realized how long ago it was that he taught us, invited me to go for a drink though I couldn't because I had to work early today, so we decided that we would go another night, to catch up... It's weird thinking that I'm kind of a grown-up now, and I can "go for drinks" with the guy I always wished I could go for drinks with in high school. But seeing the performance, seeing Tyler, seeing his moments, made me remember all of mine. And it made me remember why I did it.

Dude...(Major Band Geek Moment)

I can't even explain how freaking amazing this thing I saw tonight was. My old percussion instructor from high school Tyler Hornby had a gig at the university with his band, and I dragged Linda to go see it with me. I'm seriously speechless... I miss music so much I realize... I kept looking over at Linda in the performance "holy shit that was SICK" and she'd stare at me blankly and say "yes, it was very nice." Just how freaking amazing they all were, I can't believe it. He looked pretty fine too... There's just something about musicians!

I found another pretty funny one... this time courtesy of Dee and then myself.

Gotta Love Thursdays!

To me, Thursday means sleep in, one class, and a nice relaxing evening. I love Thursdays.

Today, I slept in until 9 something (when the cats woke me up to be fed... Carol, I hate you for making your cats hungry this early in the morning.) I started and finished my Spanish presentation that is tomorrow (like I said, the procrastination is getting out of hand), and then decided to go to the mall. You see, since the wedding day, I've been searching my mum's and dad's houses frantically for my favourite maroon TNA hoodie. I wore it to the hairdresser's, then changed into the dress, then the next day when I went back to get all my stuff it was gone. GONE. My theory is that Kristen took it home with her by accident and now she is keeping it because she is jealous of my amazing fashion, and really, how would I ever know since I don't see her... In three years I'll be looking at her pictures and she'll be wearing it in every one. Or maybe the house hippos got it. Either way, I'm maroon hoodie-less, and sad.

So today, I went to the mall in search of a new favourite hoodie. I found one, and it's basically the same, but more purple than maroon. I'm not a huge purple person, but the other day I wore this purple tank top and people kept telling me how nice I looked in purple. So, I got a purple hoodie. (I wonder if I said purple enough... PURPLE!) I also got a green t-shirt, because a girl can never have too much green.

I also bought my mum her birthday present, even though it's almost a week late. I was looking for this one specific thing and only found it today.

I decided that I didn't feel like going to class (see above comment about the whole getting out of hand thing, but replace procrastination with laziness) so I came home, watched ellen, made perogies, and chilled. All in all, a good day!

Job?

Good News: I have an interview with WestJet next Wednesday

Bad News: It's a GROUP interview

Good News: I speak French, and they like that

Bad News: I didn't know how to say "turbulance" in French on the phone, thus making me sound kinda dumb since I said "ohmygosh I don't know how to say turbulance" when they asked me to translate a sentence into French

Good News: If I DO get hired, my flight priviledges are effective the first day of training (aka any flight westjet does for about $25)

Bad News: No buddy passes until after three months (along with shares and benefits)

Good News: I have an interview

Bad News: I might not get the job...

We'll just have to wait and see!!

I wish...

I have some sitting on my counter, but alas, I decided NOT to bring them to work today and I am living to regret that decision.

If you aren't me, my mother, or my sister, you might be bored to tears

Today, I got to rub elbows with the pairs and ice dancers who are competing in World Championships. My mum and I went today for a few hours to watch them all practice at the saddledome and at the corral. How cool was it to sit in the second row, right behind all their coaches, and watch them UP CLOSE doing their thing... It was wicked.

At the Olympics, Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon were favoured to do quite well, but Marie-France fell majorly during the move in the picture... She hurt her hip pretty badly and they had to withdraw from the competition. So, we were all waiting with bated breath to see if she'd be okay to compete in the World Championships. Well, today I saw her perform the very spinny tossy holdy thing that made her fall, and she looked great! So you can all breath a sigh of relief, because they WILL be competing.

Megan Wing and Aaron Lowe apparently have been skating together for about 15 years, and have never quite made it to the top, but they're really good and seem like cool people (I smiled at Aaron Lowe today when he walked by me and he made eye contact... we're now best friends), and it was cool to see them today.

I also saw the canadian pairs and the other pairs and ice dancers... Some french chick was sitting beside me for about 15 minutes, and we ALL know how great of an eavesdropper I am (aka I have to be staring at them to hear what they're saying) so I'm sure she was kind of pissed off after the first 5 mintues of gawking and then me not looking away even after getting a death stare. Oh well... there were way more hardcore fans than us there... People were asking people for autographs and wore iron on shirts with people's pictures on them.

Too bad I have to go to school this week, otherwise I could use my mum's passes to EVERY SINGLE EVENT when she's working and go see them! I guess I'll just have to watch on TV and look for mum!
