Today, I got to rub elbows with the pairs and ice dancers who are competing in World Championships. My mum and I went today for a few hours to watch them all practice at the saddledome and at the corral. How cool was it to sit in the second row, right behind all their coaches, and watch them UP CLOSE doing their thing... It was wicked.
At the Olympics, Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon were favoured to do quite well, but Marie-France fell majorly during the move in the picture... She hurt her hip pretty badly and they had to withdraw from the competition. So, we were all waiting with bated breath to see if she'd be okay to compete in the World Championships. Well, today I saw her perform the very spinny tossy holdy thing that made her fall, and she looked great! So you can all breath a sigh of relief, because they WILL be competing.
Megan Wing and Aaron Lowe apparently have been skating together for about 15 years, and have never quite made it to the top, but they're really good and seem like cool people (I smiled at Aaron Lowe today when he walked by me and he made eye contact... we're now best friends), and it was cool to see them today.
I also saw the canadian pairs and the other pairs and ice dancers... Some french chick was sitting beside me for about 15 minutes, and we ALL know how great of an eavesdropper I am (aka I have to be staring at them to hear what they're saying) so I'm sure she was kind of pissed off after the first 5 mintues of gawking and then me not looking away even after getting a death stare. Oh well... there were way more hardcore fans than us there... People were asking people for autographs and wore iron on shirts with people's pictures on them.
Too bad I have to go to school this week, otherwise I could use my mum's passes to EVERY SINGLE EVENT when she's working and go see them! I guess I'll just have to watch on TV and look for mum!
